Is black.com free?
Yes. We offer a free plan that has no trial periods and requires no credit card. It is available in select countries and subject to eligibility checks. Paid plans offer more storage and higher limits.
What gets encrypted and what remains visible to black.com?
We encrypt the contents of your stored subjects, messages and attachments. Delivery metadata, including sender and recipient addresses and when messages were sent, remains unencrypted for technical reasons.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. If you own a domain, you can use it for your email address instead of @black.com. You will need access to its DNS settings to connect it. See our custom domain plans.
What makes black.com different from other encrypted email providers?
We combine email security with a level of design and usability that traditional encrypted email providers often overlook. And then there's the domain: black.com. Short, memorable, and built to stand apart.
Can I keep my old email address or import my mail?
Your old address stays with its provider, but you can usually forward future emails to black.com automatically. Importing old emails is not yet supported.
Can I connect black.com via IMAP or POP3?
No. Third-party email apps using IMAP or POP3 are not supported since these protocols do not support zero-access or end-to-end encryption. Use black.com on the web or via our iOS or Android apps instead.
Can I use black.com for illegal activities?
No. We will not protect you from lawful requests under Austrian law. While the contents of your emails are encrypted, we can be forced to hand over IP addresses, payment data etc. Read more on our blog.
